Da Poetry Jam exists to create spaces where every voice matters — where creativity, community and human connection come together.

How It Began

Our Story

Founded in London in 2019 by award-winning spoken-word artist Terrell Lewis, also known as Terrell The Artist, Da Poetry Jam (DPJ CIC) began with a simple vision: to create a space where words could inspire, stories could connect and every voice had the opportunity to be heard. What started as an intimate poetry night at the W Hotel in Leicester Square quickly evolved into a thriving creative platform, bringing together emerging talent, established performers and audiences from all walks of life.

Today, Da Poetry Jam is more than a live event. We're a community-driven organisation dedicated to using spoken word, storytelling and creative expression as tools for empowerment, education and positive social change. Through live performances, educational workshops, community initiatives and our V.O.I.C.E Programme (Voicing Our Intellect Creatively Expressing), we create opportunities for individuals, particularly young people, to explore their identity, develop confidence, strengthen communication skills and express themselves without fear of judgement.

Terrell The Artist

Founder & Creative Director

Terrell Lewis — known professionally as Terrell The Artist — is a spoken-word artist, creative facilitator, voice-over actor and passionate advocate for the power of artistic expression.

With a deep commitment to community and creativity, Terrell founded Da Poetry Jam to build a platform where voices could be heard, stories could be shared and people could connect through the universal language of poetry and performance.

As a performer, Terrell brings energy, authenticity and emotional depth to every stage. As a facilitator, he creates safe, inspiring environments where participants — from young people in schools to adults in community and corporate settings — feel empowered to express themselves freely and confidently.

"His vision for Da Poetry Jam goes beyond events and workshops. It is about building a movement — one that uses creativity as a force for positive social impact, personal growth and genuine human connection."

What Drives Us

Our Values

01

Creativity

We believe in the limitless power of creative expression to inspire, challenge and transform. We champion bold ideas and authentic voices.

02

Inclusion

We create spaces where everyone belongs — regardless of background, experience or ability. Diversity of voice and perspective makes us stronger.

03

Authenticity

We are committed to genuine, honest expression. We celebrate real stories, real people and real experiences — never performance for its own sake.

04

Empowerment

We believe in people's capacity to grow, lead and inspire. Everything we do is designed to build confidence, capability and a sense of personal agency.

05

Community

We are rooted in community. We build lasting relationships, support local talent and measure our success by the connections we help create.

Our Future

Da Poetry Jam is growing. We are committed to expanding our reach — bringing spoken word and creative arts to more schools, more communities and more stages across the UK and beyond. We are actively seeking partnerships with schools, youth organisations, charities, local authorities, arts organisations and funding bodies who share our belief in the power of creativity to change lives.
